ABOUT ME

As salaamu alaykum
I'm Kate.

I know what it's like to feel chronically overwhelmed - heavy when you wake up, heavy when you go to bed - and I know the way out!

I'm not a therapist or a '6-figure business guru'. Just a Muslimah who's figured some things out, and wants to help other sisters do the same, bi'ithnillah.

Very into: quiet mornings, coffee, cats and creative projects and simplifying anything that doesn't need to be complicated (ie. everything).

I didn't always know how to simplify, or how to set up and run the tech behind an online digital platform.

I learned both, slowly, with plenty (and I mean plenty) of trial and error. I didn't have a guide or a coach but I did have a business background, a creative spirit, a love of testing things out and a whole lot of tenacity.

The dream of creating a halal business (that allowed me to work on my terms) kept me going, even when it was hard and I wanted to give up. Alhamdulillah.

That's really the back story to everything I do and everything I now teach.

...I'd love to share what I've learned to help you skip some of the years (and yes, the blood, sweat & tears) it took me.

looking back

How Allah plans... I suppose now, in hindsight, it makes sense that the girl who set out on an 800km walk in her early twenties, injured herself on day one, could barely walk by day 3, and still made it to the end, against all odds (lightening her load, and taking it one day and one small step at a time) would end up teaching simplification, resilience and the incredible power of small steps - in life and business - over 20 years later...subhanAllah.

I share the story in my free ebook Simplify. The Barakah of Less.

currently

I'm probably somewhere quiet, working through how to make something simpler, or heading to my veggie garden to dig in the dirt. I'm highly introverted (94% on Myers Briggs, if you're curious), and most days I'd honestly rather be gardening or reading than sitting in front of a computer, or camera.

how it all unfolded

From overwhelmed to simply ihsan

The first 30 years

Studying, travelling, working

I studied business, computer graphics, massage therapy, CELTA and more - travelled 30 countries. Worked when I had to. Looking back, I was picking up skills I had no idea I'd need later.

April 2010

Becoming Muslim

Alhamdulillah for guidance. It was a beautiful time, and also one of the hardest of my life.

The beginning

Healthy Muslimah

I qualified as a Nutrition Consultant, taught myself to build WordPress websites and started a blog. My first post was about flax seeds - it was terrible! I went on to launch the Healthy Muslimah Summit and the Simply Healthy Program, and to write and publish my first book, Then and Now: Food in the Time of the Prophet ﷺ and Food Now. I learned the tech as I went.

2018

Fine on the outside, drowning on the inside

I prayed, fasted in Ramadan, wore hijab, ate halal and said alhamdulillah. But my days were far from centred on my purpose or my akhirah. I had never-ending to-do lists, overflowing inboxes, books I kept buying and never read, courses I signed up for and never finished, recipes I downloaded and never made. I was firefighting my way through days or overwhelmed to the point of paralysis. In short, I was a hot mess.

The turning point

A conversation with a friend

She was telling me how chaotic her life felt and how she kept struggling with her health goals. I heard myself say, "What if the problem isn't that you're not able? What if there's just no space in your life for change? What if you made space first?"

Make space for change.

It was so simple. I needed to take my own advice.

A shift

Finding Sakeenah

I did just that. I made space for change in my own life, then shared the idea with others, and the impact was astounding. Simplicity became my core message. I launched Finding Sakeenah, a journey to tranquility through simplicity, along with the Simplify and Life on Purpose programs.

The long haul

12 years of learning

I learned everything from scratch: websites, course creation, digital platforms. I made a lot of mistakes. I moved platforms more than once and took my students with me each time (I don't recommend it) before settling on Kajabi. Along the way I found out I love building things behind the scenes and in the process, became a bit of a Kajabi expert in the process.

Stepping back

Time and space to think

Around the time of covid, a lot had happened in my life.  After finishing up the final Summit and a final live cohort, I stepped back from teaching online with no real plan.

I asked myself some big questions. What is my purpose? What are my priorities? What do I want my life to look like, and how does my business fit into it?

What do I need to do differently?

A new system

The Simply Ihsan™ Method

I built a method I needed myself - to help me stay clear, avoid overwhelm and keep making progress based on 3 simple principles, inspired by Prophetic guidance: less but better, small steps consistently, and everything has its time.

Something unexpected

We plan, and He plans

While I was taking a break, something unexpected happened. I had sisters reach out who wanted me to help them set up pa platform of their own. They had audiences and knowledge to share abut didn't know where to begin. I said yes and we set to work - their platforms blossomed.

....and a seed of an idea took root.

2026

New beginnings

I went back to the drawing board. I got clear on my why, what I stand for, who I want to serve, the skills Allah has given me, and how I can best help...

Then I completely rebuilt my brand and business from the ground up to incorporate both life and business - with simply ihsan.

bismillah...
